Firmware
Q: Why do you offer an encrypted version?
A: Some client uses require a player that cannot be re-purposed. Our System On a Chip (SOC) has the capability for a client specific firmware encryption password. In this use case, the files are authored with the client specific secret key, and are deployed as our proprietary, encrypted smp file type (Secure MP3). Players authored and imaged in this way are extremely resistant to tampering, as they will not play content that has not been authored with the client’s encryption key.
Q: We have custom requirements. How flexible is your firmware?
A: We can change many elements of the firmware. Length of button press, initial volume level, as well as special long and short press features, LED display behavior, and more, that allow a user to navigate large content volumes with ease. Contact us to discuss your specific needs or custom implementation ideas.
Q: Can I request firmware updates and make changes to my features after we have already received our players?
A: Yes, but doing this is recommended for player validation and development, not for day to day use. It is much more convenient to order players with the correct firmware installed in the SOCs during manufacturing at our factory. Re flashing a large quantity of players is possible but can be a tedious and time consuming activity.
Q: Can the players “remember” where they were in a particular program, so that users can move back and forth between programs, returning to the place in a program that they were at earlier?
A: Yes. Users can switch to another program and then return to exactly the point where they left. This memory capability is persistent across a power off or battery drain / recharge scenarios.
Q: Can a player be forced to “forget” it’s memory pointer locations?
A: Yes. Perform a hard reset. With the power off, press and hold the power button until it automatically turns off again after about 8 seconds. When the player is restarted, the volume will be reset to the mid point and all memories will be forgotten. The content will remain unchanged.
